REPORT FOR W/E 3rd January 2010 and entries.
05/01/2010
HAPPY NEW YEAR! Obviously the weather affected our entries over the Christmas and New Year period. The Big 'Orse, Edes and Maxwill were all victims but despite the adverse conditions BARACK O'BARMA finished 3rd beaten a couple of lengths at 100 - 1. We have always thought that he was a horse for the future but would have needed more time to mature. We were surprised but delighted with his run and look forward to further improvement. On his second outing BACK TO THE RANCH ran a creditable 3rd although we had hoped for a little more and we are sure that there is better to come. Although we are still relatively quiet due to the weather we will have a few runners on the AW over the next week. Thursday 7th sees DANI'S GIRL run at Kempton in the 6.10 in the 2 mile Handicap carrying a 6lb penalty from her last win. Now upped in class, Kieran Fox rides. Lingfield sees I OWE SILVER on his second run in a NH Flat race ridden by Gareth Thomas. Friday 8th sees THE BIG 'ORSE and EDES at Fontwell in the 2 mile 6 furlong Maiden Hurdle and the 2 mile 4 furlong Conditional Jockeys Handicap Chase while CACTUS KING goes at Lingfield in the 11/2 mile Selling Stakes. Of course the weather is the deciding factor!
NEWS OVER CHRISTMAS
23/12/2009
Despite the atrocious weather we have managed to keep our current horses in training on the go as the Downs Keepers have done a splendid job working through the night to keep the gallops open. We will probably only have two runners between Christmas and New Year as Ede's Dot Com and Dani's Girl are entered at Kempton on Wednesday 30th December over 7 furlongs and 2 miles respectively. Dani's Girl will also be entered over hurdles at Sandown on 2nd January. The Big Orse, Ede's and Maxwill will be entered in different races at Plumpton on Sunday 3rd January. The entries at Plumpton will be ground dependent. We would like to take this oportunity to wish all our owners and web site viewers a very Happy Christmas and a properous New Year! On that note we can confirm that if over both codes you had followed horses trained at Ermyn Lodge you would have shown a profit to a level stake and this has been maintained for two years running! Best wishes

We will have around 12 two year olds to run next year and our National Hunt horses are now all in and we will be giving more information on these over the next 10 days.

EDE'S DOT COM AT BRIGHTON 22.10.2009

EPSOM SALTS reached a seasons end on Saturday and will now have a well earned rest for the remaining weeks of this season to come. Seeking Stardom ran the best of his three races so far in his career and has been given a handicap rating of 63. He is now retired for this season and will return to training in January.

DOUBLE FOR ERMYN LODGE
11/09/2009
Epsom Downs 10th September 2009
It has been many years since an Epsom trainer has scored a double in the same meeting at Epsom Downs and we were very pleased with the way all three of our horses ran. EPSOM SALTS picked up his second Derby in the Jump Jockeys Derby over 1mile 4 furlongs. He hit the front inside the final furlong and stayed on with the tenacity that tippifies his previous runs on this course and was steered home by Sam Thomas. LEADENHALL LASS in the last race of the day over 6 furlongs, tracked the leaders that had set off at a blistering speed and made a determined challenge to lead over 2 furlongs out and stayed on well to finish 2 lengths clear. SIR WILLIAM ORPEN in his second race on a racecourse ran exceptionally well finishing 3rd beaten just over 4 lengths in what appears to have been a good maiden
RECENT RACE REPORTS
07/09/2009
Saturday 5th September saw ERMYN LODGE in action at Kempton Park.He ran a very creitable race to finish 2nd with the 3rd horse 4 lengths adrift. He is likely to have one more race before having a holiday but we shall wait and see what penalty the handicapper gives him. On Friday 4th at Kempton DO MORE BUSINESS ran a really good race just beaten into 4th on the line although he was only 2 lenghts off the winner.
KEMPTON PARK 2nd September 2009

WHIEPA SNAPPA gave a creditable perfomance to finish 3rd in the 1 mile Digibet Nursery, running on to finish 3 lengths in front of the fourth horse. SIR WILLIAM ORPEN made his racecourse debut and although unplaced ran well.
RUNNERS w/e 13th September 2009
02/09/2009
SEEKING STARDOM may run in either the 6 furlong Median Auction race at Lingfield on 8th September or in a similar race at Kempton the following day. Looking forward to EPSOM DOWNS on 10th September in the Jump Jockeys Derby may see RUN FOR EDE'S, back from a months break and EPSOM SALTS entered. At the same meeting over 6 furlongs LEADENHALL LASS who has come out of her last run well may be an entry but we shall see how she is nearer the time. GOODWOOD 12th/13th September has oportunities for RUN FOR EDE'S, EPSOM SALTS and DO MORE BUSINESS but more of this later.
EPSOM 31st AUGUST 2009
02/09/2009
EPSOM SALTS ran a very good race to finish 3rd running off a career high weight in the handicap in the Amateur Gentlemen Riders Derby. He was a victim of the very slow early pace and even though he did get to the front 1 furlong down he did not have the pace to stay there. He may return to Epsom Downs for the Jump Jockeys Derby on 10th September or alteratively may be campaigned over 2 miles after a short break. LEADENHALL LASS ran her best race this season so far to finish 3rd in the 6 furlong handicap. She reacted very well to the application of a visor and had to overcome a difficult draw (8 of 8). She may well go back for a further 6 furlong contest at Epsom on 10th September. DANIS GIRL ran a very creditable 5th in the Amateur Gentlemen Riders Derby in her first run for the stable and will have one more race on the flat before being campaigned over hurdles. MAXWIL ran well in the conditions race over 1 mile 2 furlongs but did not handle the track, nonetheless in finishing 4th he picked up £560.00 for his owner.

EPSOM SALTS WINS LADIES AMATEUR DERBY
24/08/2009
Epsom trained Derby winners are not too frequuent these days, so when EPSOM SALTS trained at Ermyn Lodge landed the Ladies Derby Handicap, ridden by Serena Brotherton, by a neck,at Epsom last Thursday 20th August, there were many who were very pleased with the result. He had won over course and distance previously and his trainer, Pat Phelan and members of The Epsom Racegoers in whose colours he races filled the winners enclosure, reminding us of the day that Motivator won The Derby. He is very well and we will update you through this news page on his future races in due course. On Friday 21st WHEIPA SNAPPER finished a close up third on his handicap debut over 1 mile at Salisbury.
FOLKESTONE 19.08.09
18/08/2009
Seeking Stardom & Sir William Orpen
We decided not to declare Seeking Stardom and Sir William Orpen at Folkestone tomorrow due to firm ground. This may also deny Sir William Orpen from a run at Salisbury on Friday. However, Whiepa Snappa is a likely runner in the 1 Mile Nursery.
YOUNG DOTTIE 17.08.09
18/08/2009
Runners at Epsom 20.08.09
Young Dottie ran well in defeat at Windsor and has come out of the race very well. Consequently we have decided to declare her for Epsom on Thursday in the Mile+ Handicap, Class 4, for three year old's only. Rated 66-85. Epsom Salts is also declared at Epsom on Thursday and will run in the Ladies Amateur Derby. He is a previous course and distance winner and is expected to run well.

FORTHCOMING RACE ENTRIES
12/08/2009
ERMYN LODGE runs today at Sandown in a repeat of his last race over 1 mile 6 furlongs for 3 - y - o only. This is a better contest than the last one but we expect that he will give a good account of himself. On Thursday LEADENHALL LASS will run over 5 furlongs at Sandown and MAXWILL will have his first run for us over 7 furlongs at the same meeting. On the face of it he seems to be badly handicapped on previous form but both horses are very well in themselves and are expected to run well. Coming up next week starting on Monday 17th August YOUNG DOTTIE has two entries, one at Windsor over 1 mile and a second at Yarmouth over 7 furlongs and we will decide where she will run nearer to the date. Wednesday AUGUST 19th Folkestone, SEEKING STARDOM will have his second run and SIR WILLIAM ORPEN will make his racecourse debut. Both these entries are in the 7 furlong maiden auction.
LAST WEEKS RESULTS
12/08/2009
EPSOM SALTS had no luck in running in his race and although finishing 4th the Handicapper chose not to adjust him in the ratings. BABY DOTTIE ran well to finish second beating the favourite. She should now receive a rating sufficient to enter the Watership Down at Ascot in September which will be her next objective. BACK AT THE RANCH ran a creditable 5th on his debut at Worcester and will return in approximately 3 weeks for an attempt at another "bumper" where his is likely to be ridden more prominently.

TECKTAL just got touched off by 3/4 of a length and she is entered again this Thursday 30th July at Epsom in the Apprentice Race. YOUNG DOTTIE missed the break and although running on at the finish was hanging badly with the camber of the track and may not be suited with the conditions. Ascot Sunday 26th July: RUN FOR EDE'S was 4th, beaten 2 lengths, in a hotly contested £25000.00 handicap. Not getting a clear run throughout the race a gap opened at the 3 furlong marker and she finished strongly and continues to improve.
RUNNERS w/e 25th July 2009
20/07/2009
Runners for this week are confined to the Epsom Downs evening meeting on 23rd July where, going permitted, we will be represented by TECKTAL or ERMYN LODGE in the 1 mile 4 furlongs handicap and YOUNG DOTTIE in the 7 furlong handicap.
RUN FOR EDE'S WINS
17/07/2009
Run for Ede's coninues her good form and won convincingly at Epsom on Thursday 16th July. last into the straight she was pulled wide of a tightly packed field to lead well in the last furlong and held on to win despite a Stewards enquiry which she never looked like losing. She will be rested for approximately 14 days and we will try to find a better class race over 1 mile 4 or 1 mile 6 furlongs.
EPSOM SALTS NEWBURY 10TH JULY
13/07/2009
Friday night at Newbury saw Epsom Salts run a little bit below par indicating that the Handicapper may already have caught up with him.
RUN FOR EDES ASCOT 10TH JULY 2009
13/07/2009
Because of the slow pace at Epsom she was not fully extended. On Friday morning she pulled out in good fettle and it was decided by the connections to go for the race at Ascot. After a fast pace was set by Robby Bobby, which suited her, she came from a long way back to win under a strong drive from apprentice Jack Dean. She will run again at Epsom on 16th July.
TECKTAL, RUN FOR EDES
13/07/2009
EPSOM 9TH JULY 2009
Tecktal ran a very good race at Epsom, her first run after a break. However, Run for Edes experienced no look in running and was a fast finishing 3rd.
SUPER DUPLEX EPSOM 9TH JULY
13/07/2009
Super Duplex ran a good race to finish 3rd in a very competetive Maiden. He will now be stepped up to 7 furlongs and will most likely try to win a Maiden before going on to Handicap company.
EPSOM SALTS WINS AT EPSOM
03/07/2009
Last night at the first of Epsom Downs Racecourse's 2009 evening meetings, EPSOM SALTS was awarded best turned out and went on to win the 1 mile 4 furlong opener. Ridden well by Jack Dean on his first ride at the Epsom course he fnished 2 1/4 lengths clear of his rivals. Having hit the board with a number of recent runners, last night we hit the bulls eye! We have won "best turned out" 3 times recently and this is a credit to the staff at Ermyn Lodge. DO MORE BUSINESS our other runner came from a difficult draw and was not suited to the undulations of the course and while briefly showed, weakened in the last furlong.
MORE RACE ENTRY NEWS
30/06/2009
Following yesterday's race entries it has been decided that DO MORE BUSINESS will run on Thursday at Epsom in the 7 furlong Median Auction Maiden.
REPORT FOR W/E 27th JUNE 2009 and entries to come
29/06/2009
Three runners, three thirds. ERMYN LODGE indicated a particlar dislike to the softened polytrack due to the heat at Kempton as he had to be pushed throughout the race by jockey Luke Morris who blew harder than the horse at the finish! From last position coming into the straight he ran on to finish third beaten by 3 lenghts and a short head. LEADENHALL LASS showed a marked improvement on her return to turf over 6furlongs at Salisbury. Travelling very well inside the last furlong she looked like winning however, faded to finish a close up third. YOUNG DOTTIE ran a very creditable third on turf at Lingfield, she led briefly inside the last furlong when her high handicap mark began to take it's toll. She is improving with every run and like last year we expect her to oblige before the season is over. We have a number of entries for this week however only one is likely to run and that is EPSOM SALTS in the first race of this years evening meetings at Epsom.
RACE ENTRIES UPDATE
18/06/2009
ERMYN LODGE is entered for a 1 1/2mile Handicap at Windsor on Monday 22nd June. Second over this C&D before and even though Ian Mongan is not available we have been able to secure the services of Ted Durcan who has previously ridden him at Nottingham and we are hopeful for a big run. LEADENHALL LASS will not run at Windsor, as previously advertised here, in favour of a 3-y-o fillies only race over 6 furlongs at Salisbury on Wednesday 24th June. She will be ridden by Ian Mongan and despite a poor performance on the A/W last time we hope that a return to turf will show an improvement.
CHINOISE
18/06/2009
Chinoise had her debut race at Windsor on Monday 15th June when she finished a close up 5th. She was watched by her owner who had come up for Royal Ascot and her performance gave a good start to the week
FORTHCOMING RACE ENTRIES
15/06/2009
We have some 2-y-o runners in the next few days the first being SUPER DUPLEX, recently placed, and now returns to the fray on Saturday 20th June in a 7 furlong Maiden Auction at Lingfield and WHEIPA SNAPPA who makes his racecourse debut in a 6 furlong Maiden Auction at Windsor on Monday 22nd June. He may be joined by DO MORE BUSINESS who ran second in his first race and as a result is now under new ownership. All three horses are well
RECENT RACE REPORTS
09/06/2009
Leadenhall Lass was disappointing on the all weather at Lingfield and will now revert to turf and the fast conditions similar to those when she won last year. The target race is yet to be decided. Epsom Salts seems to be in the grip of the handicapper at the moment although he ran very well at Folkestone yesterday to finish 4th just a length and a half off the winner. He will be attempting a slightly shorter distance next time. Cactus King was disappointing on Saturday and hasn't performed well in all his runs this season. It has been decided to let him have a holiday away from the racecourse and will return later in the year.
List of runners w/e 6th June 2009
02/06/2009
BACK AT THE RANCH will run at Fontwell in the Bumper on Wednesday 3rd, ground dependent. LEADENHALL LASS is well in herself and will run at Lingfield Park in the 3.20 on Thursday 4th. CACTUS KING has been disappointing this season and is entered at Lingfield on Saturday 6th in the 5.20. This is a lower grade race and we shall have to wait and see!
Young Dottie
02/06/2009
Newbury 30th May 2009
Young Dottie ran well to her handicap over seven furlongs to finish 4th. A couple of pounds off could see her in the winners enclosure.
SUPER DUPLEX and DO MORE BUSINESS
26/05/2009
Goodwood 25th May 2009
These two 2-y-o ran very creditably at Goodwood yesterday. SUPER DUPLEX tried to make all but was headed 1 furlong out but still with every chance and kept on to finish third one and three quarter lenghts behind the winner. His performance leads us to believe that he could have a longer trip in him in the future. DO MORE BUSINESS had his first outing on a racecourse and came to the front 1 furlong out but was caught close home and although kept on well was always just held by the winner who won by a neck. Both horses were awarded "best turned out" which is a credit to the staff at Ermyn Lodge
Ruthie
30/04/2009
A colt foal by Acclamation
Ruthie foaled a colt by Acclamation last night. He is a good looking foal and Ruthie has followed the trend of our mares sent to high class stallions this year who have all produced colt foals.
Run For Ede's and Ermyn Lodge
28/04/2009
Windsor 27th April 2009
We were delighted with the performance of our entries at Windsor last night, achieving a winner and a second place. The potential broodmare, Run For Ede's obliged at long odds in the 1 1/2 mile handicap. She was assisted by a little ease in the ground caused by the recent rain and ran very genuinely to see out the trip on her first time of asking. Ermyn Lodge, named after the stud, was narrowly beaten by a length and a half in the 1 1/2 mile handicap for 3-y-o only. He was not assisted by the late rain and change of going but stayed on resolutely to be second, giving 5lbs to the winner. He will continue to be campaigned at this distance or longer. Run For Ede's having now won twice at Windsor has shown a preference for this track and will likely return there for a similar event.
Young Dottie
23/04/2009
Epsom Spring Meeting
Young Dottie ran very well yesterday and was up with the leader until 2 furlongs out. She had a difficult draw and had to expend energy at the start of the race to get herself in a good position which may have had an effect on her eventual placing. She is well and we look forward to her running again.
Reveuse De Jour
22/04/2009
Latest foal at Ermyn Lodge
Reveuse De Jour our resident Sadlers Wells mare foaled a bay colt by Rock of Gibraltar. He is a very good looking colt with Sadlers Wells markings.
SUPER DUPLEX
06/04/2009
Lingfield Park 4th April 2009
An interesting juvenile maiden for Super Duplex over 5 furlongs for his racecourse debut, we believe that this race will unfold to be a decent contest and Super Duplex will improve for the run.
THE BIG 'ORSE
06/04/2009
Lingfield Park 28th March 2009
The Big 'Orse was 4th of 15 in a good novice hurdle that was full of promising hurdlers, he kept on and was catching the leaders in the final couple of furlongs. He was a little clumsy at some hurdles and will improve in this aspect.
ERMYN LODGE
26/03/2009
Kempton 25th March 2009
Ermyn Lodge ridden by Ian Mongan was upped in distance to 1 mile 4 furlongs for his handicap debut and prevailed in a tight finish to take the honours. We should like to think that the Handicapper will not be too severe on him as in the finish he won by a head.
Ermyn Lodge foals 2009
24/03/2009
Authorised colt.
During the recent snow storm three of our mares foaled. The first being a colt by Authorised out of Yesteryear our resident Green Desert mare. Others have been a Nayef filly by River Cara, a Byron filly by Aymara and a Royal Applause colt by Marah. With three mares still to foal life at the Stud is still very busy.
Representingceltic
23/03/2009
23rd March 2009 Kempton
Representingceltic showed some ability in his only other race finishing 8th at Sandown. He ran a really promising race this time back in 3rd, drawing nicely away from the rest. He is only 4 and remains capable of better.
Sophies Trophy (IRE) 2005
21/03/2009
Newbury 21st March 2009
Sophies Trophy was placed third in a listed race at Cheltenham on New Years Day. He enjoyed being out in front on this latest outing but came up against a decent rival finishing second 10 lengths clear of 3rd horse.
